On Sunday we launched our latest edition of Shattered Fragments, with THE DEADCOATS, the first in a series of videos giving a taste of new show ideas that we've been cooking up. But what exactly is Shattered Fragments, and what's it all about? What is it?Shattered Fragments is our semi-regular revue of new work. We present six new fragments of work, all ideas that we would like to develop into full-length shows. The night is built around audience feedback, and the responses from the audience are crucial in how we develop the pieces further. It's a great platform to experiment, and has been the starting point for much of our work. Soften the Grey, The Number of the Beast, The Burgundy Boy - even The Intergalactic Circus of Truths - all had their first incarnations at a Shattered Fragments night. Why online this time? Now, in 2020, because of that thing that's going on, it's been difficult for us to try work out in front of a live audience. But off the back of some amazing behind-the-scenes work we've been doing with our core artistic team exploring and defining what we do, we are chomping at the bits to try out some new show ideas. Shattered Fragments is the natural place to do this. But we've had to change the format this time round. How's it going to work?Every Sunday at 4pm we are releasing a new video. Each video focuses on a different show idea that we'd like to develop in the future. In the past, some Shattered Fragments nights featured work exclusively written by Jake & Nigel. This time round we've really wanted to highlight our wider creative team, and so the videos have been put together by some of our key associate artists: Becky Bone, Will Bridges, Dodie Finamore, Amy Fleming and George Mills, with Zinta Gercans producing and, of course, Jake and Nigel contributing heavily. The videos are all going to take different forms. Some will feel a little like Kickstarter videos. Some more like short films. Others like trailers. It's hard trying to capture the experimental energy of a scratch night in a pithy yet permanent video, but the important thing for us is that we get these new ideas out there, and find out what you think! Because if we're excited about them then we hope you will be too. What are the ideas? We have decided to share new show ideas that cover the whole breadth of our work: interactive festival theatre, original scripted work and reinterpreted Shakespeare.
