THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST
a black comedy about resurrection by 6FootStories
Alison Jones is dead. Life should go on for her housemates Julie and Lisa, but Julie has other ideas. Cue voodoo ceremonies and unexpected consequences as Julie launches a mission to bring Alison back. Things don't go to plan though, and the girls get more than they bargained for when a strange naked man turns up instead of Alison Jones. A dark and twisted comedy about black magic, bereavement and moving on.
THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST was the first full length play Jake Hassam and Nigel Munson wrote together. It was a joy to create, and had an incredible soundtrack. The first scene of the show was also the first ever 6FootStories performance, originally created as a standalone piece for a night called GROVE END ROAD, way back when in the summer of 2011.
We were blessed to have an extraordinarily talented cast to write for - Holly Blair, Adam Langstaff, Emily Lloyd-Saini, and Elvina Muschett (and later, Amma Boateng). We went on to develop the story into a full-length show in 2012, and presented it at the Tristan Bates Theatre in Covent Garden.
Unfortunately we moved onto other projects very quickly after 2012 - two and a half years of doing SOFTEN THE GREY got in the way - and this wonderfully dark and funny tale hasn't been seen since. But who knows what may happen? We often talk of turning it into a sitcom, or a web series, and we're quite keen to throw Julie into other black magic adventures. Something will happen, sometime.
Just because THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST is packed away for now doesn't mean the story's over...
